Queensland Opal Territory

Jundah

Junda is the administrative centre for the Barcoo Shire, Jundah provides a good range of outback attractions for visitors.

The town itself has its share of quaint and individual features, and the surrounding district’s attractions range from a national park to a site made famous by A.B. “Banjo” Paterson in his poem, “A Bush Christening”.

Judah Pool

For people who are driving from Windorah, it’s a journey of an hour and a quarter through the mulga and red soil country (the last 10km are sealed). Jundah itself is at the centre of sheep and cattle grazing land.

The Thomson River is just outside town. You might catch a yellowbelly, jew or bream.

Attractions

Opals, magnificent scenery, pioneer history, great fishing and good facilities are all part of the mosaic of the Barcoo Shire. Encompassing the towns of Windorah, Jundah and Stonehenge, the shire contains much to attract travellers. Here, people can visit the famous channel country, climb magnificent red sandhills, explore national park country and experience the poignancy of the past.
